Process
As you complete each activity throughout your journey, please keep it in your folder and keep it till the end of the unit.
Task 1 - In your pair, you need to research the 5 most important natural resources in Australia. When reading the information you need to write down key points about the natural resources. You will need to record these answers on the activity sheet called Task 1 Gathering Information which can be found on the resouces page. (HINT- These 5 resources might be Water, Coal, Gold, Trees (wood) and Air (Air pollution)).
Task 2 - Using the information from task 1, in your pair you must choose the resource you wish to manage in this unit. On the resources page you will find a link called Task 2 Explaining Why. You must complete this document and explain why you have chosen that resource.
You will also need to complete a K.W.L chart, which will be added to throughout your journey. You will find a blank K.W.L chart on the resources page.
Task 3 - In your pairs you need to begin planning your assessment task. For this task you will be looking at the information you need to include in your persuasive article and sorting it into a plan.
Once you have brainstormed your plan on the activity document on the resources page called Task 3 Planning, you need follow the link to google (found on the resources page also) and use the questions you made in your pair to begin your research. You must record the websites you find relevant information on and copy the URL down in the activity called My Websites. You may also like to find a map showing where your resource is located in Australia!
You need to also add to your K.W.L chart.
Task 4 - Now that you have found the relevant information about your resource, in your pair you need to create a plan that needs to be undertaken by all humans to maintain your chosen resouce. You need to discuss how these planned actions will help the resource. (HINT- You may need to do some more research to help answer some of the questions - Remember these need to be in the form of questions). On the resources page you need to complete the document called Task 4 Managing Resources.
Task 5 - You must have completed all the above activities completely before beginning this task.
Now that you and your peer have found all the relevant information you need to write your persuasive speech, you need to make a draft of how the information will be put together. You will need to write up a plan of what you will say first, second, thrid and first. A document called Task 5 Persuading the Audience can be found on the resources page. It will help you with this task.
You will need to give this to your teacher to look at once you have completed it. In your pair, you also need to brainstorm the persuasive language and terms that you will need to use to be more effective when trying to persuade the audience.
(HINT- Some of these persuasive terms may be in your English book). Your websites must also be typed and printed out and handed in with your speech on presentation day.
Task 6 - Today you will present your persuasive speeches. You need to remember who your audience is and be professional. Once all groups have presented their speeches, you last task is to reflect on the unit, your resource and resource plan and your persuasive essay. You will need to complete the document called Task 6 Reflecting. This is an Individual task. You must also complete your K.W.L and finish it off.
You need to hand to your teacher all the activity documents you have completed during your learning journey including your K.W.L and My websites sheet.
